TAYLAH ORZEL – ALBANY’S RISING FOOTIE STAR

At the bottom of Western Australia is the stunningly beautiful town of Albany and like most places out west, Aussie rules footie really does rule.

Taylah, a beauty therapist by profession, just might be adding professional footie player if she stays on the same development path.

SHOOTING FOR THE TOP LEAGUE - TAYLAH ORZEL

Last month she was selected from the Great Southern region along with nine other players to do fitness and drill sessions in Denmark, another beautiful town about 50kms north of Albany, with the West Coast Eagles women’s club which is one of the teams in the top professional women’s national league.

They then went to Perth and Taylah played in a scratch match at the Eagles home ground. She really enjoyed that experience and reckons she went pretty good.

Now she is just waiting to see if she is selected to take the next step towards becoming a pro in the top league.

Out of the Royals club in Albany, the ace mid-fielder is a serial ‘best on ground’ winner for her beloved club, has won numerous awards and it’s no surprise her multi-talented skills caught the eye of scouts and selectors from the big league in Perth.

She trialed for Claremont, was successful and now is a regular for the Perth based club.

However there’s no resting on her laurels as she explained because the Claremont team is selected each week and if you have a bad game chances are you’ll be left out.

Fortunately a sensible rule allows those left out to be able to go back and play for their home club but in Taylah’s case that situation has not arisen.

Women’s footie in the Great Southern region is thriving Taylah said. There are five teams in the Albany competition and up to this week, her Royals club were unbeaten winning five from five.

The season in Perth is longer, Claremont having 16 rounds then finals.

MY BALL Taylah Orzel securing possession in a recent clash

Travelling from Albany to Perth each week is a challenge, the drive nearly five hours each way, but that doesn’t worry Taylah at the moment because as she said, “if I don’t give this a decent crack I will probably regret it.

“There is a pathway for players in the regions and I know I’ve improved so much training and playing at a higher level.”

CLEARING UNDER PRESSURE
