BLACK FERNS CAN THEY DO IT – YOU BET THEY CAN

Heading into Saturday’s much anticipated Women’s World Cup rugby semifinal between the Black Ferns and France we are proud and honoured to have Chelsea Semple as our special interview guest on AbsolutelyFamous.

Chelsea (nee Alley), a powerful hard running mid-fielder, was part of the Black Ferns squad which played in the build-up matches for this World Cup but was one of the very unlucky ones not to make the final cut, injury not helping her cause.

However she’s stayed directly involved in the tournament as a commentator, comments person with Sky Sports NZ and is doing a fine job at that.

Chelsea has been a big part of the Black Ferns team having made her debut back in 2013 and played in the World Cup winning team in 2017 and in 2014 played in the New Zealand sevens side.

She also played in the Black Ferns team which was well beaten by England and France in Europe last year but said this current side is way ahead of that through becoming full-time contracted athletes and having three of the world’s greatest coaches, Wayne Smith, Sir Graham Henry and Mike Cron coaching them.

The Black Ferns have captured the hearts of the Aotearoa New Zealand Rugby public and all of us ex-pat Kiwi rugby fans in Australia and in fact a whole new sporting landscape has opened up with not only the success of the Black Ferns but the success of this current World Cup over-all.

Already a World record crowd has shown up to watch the Black Ferns play Australia in the opening round of the tournament, there’s been packed grounds at Whangarei and for the semifinals and final, Eden Park in Auckland is expected to be close to sold out.

Chelsea gives us a great insight into the Black Ferns amazing culture and what it means to play for this side.

She’s expecting France to provide a tough challenge in the semifinal while England should be too strong for Canada in the other battle

A dream final would be the Black Ferns v England but of course France and Canada won’t agree with that.

Listen to my (John Alexander) interview with Chelsea Semple as we count down to Saturday’s semifinals action.
